The Solar System and The Planets
Welcome to the new space gallery. Over the next year, we will be adding to the gallery, creating more sections covering many different aspects of outer space. But for now, we have started with the inner Solar System, The Outer Solar System will be joining us from the end of June.
The images are either my own creation, or come from NASA's NSSDC photo gallery or from NASA & ESA also, Wikipedia. was used for some of NASA's & ESA's images that were not on the NSSDC and statistics, also the DK pockets: Space Facts book (ISBN 0-7513-5187-3) was used for some stats. The original source of the images are stated. NASA's copyright policy says that their images are in the public domain because they are copyright free. Apparently.
The solar system includes the Sun, the eight planets, the asteroids & comets and everything else within the Sun's gravitational influence. The outer boundary of the Solar System is known as the Heliopause, the point at which the Sun's solar wind is stopped by the interstellar medium. The solar system is located about halfway between the galactic centre and the galaxy's edge. The nearest star to the Sun is 4.2 light years away and called Proxima Centauri. It's the smallest star of the trinary system made up of Alpha, Beta and Proxima Centauri. Please click on the links below.
