Pre-Cambrian

Prepare to be taken on a journey, spanning 4.6 billion years.

Our journey begins 4600 million years ago, at the time of the Earth’s formation. This was an intense time of meteorite bombardment. It’s estimated that life started sometime between 4 and 2 billion years ago, although an early date now seems most probable. The Pre-Cambrian eon lasted from the formation of Earth (4.6 billion years ago) until 570 mya (million years ago). Not very much is known about the Pre-Cambrian as it was mostly dominated by single celled organisms, multicellular organisms didn’t evolve until over 1000 mya, and they were pretty simple. However some bacteria grouped together to form colonies, such as Cyano bacteria, which form Stromatolites.
