Permian

The Permian period was the last period in the Palaeozoic era. It ended with a mass extinction possibly caused by all the continents colliding together forming a super continent, caller Pangaea. This meant that rain clouds could not get to the giant continent’s centre. So the largest desert on Earth formed, And Briton was right in the middle of it. Soaring temperatures, and lack of rain meant that 90 percent of life was wiped out. Before this however, the Permian was dominated mostly by mammal-like-reptiles, our ancestors. “Sailbacks”, such as Dimetrodon were very successful. During the extinction however, our ancestors evolved to burrow underground, and escape the worst of the heat.
