Palaeozoic

The Palaeozoic era began 570 million years ago, and lasted some 325 million years, ending 245 mya. The word “Palaeozoic” means “ancient life”, and the era itself is divided up into periods, the names and dates of which are as follows:

Cambrian: 570-510 mya

Ordovician: 510-439 mya

Silurian: 439-409 mya

Devonian: 409-363 mya

Carboniferous: 363-290 mya

Permian: 290-245 mya
