Jurassic

The Jurassic period (208-146 mya) is quite possibly the most famous of all the periods, most probably due to Spielberg’s film, “ Jurassic Park”. The most important geological event during the Jurassic was the brake up of the supercontinent Pangaea. First, the Tethys Sea split Pangaea into Laurasia (composed of North America, Europe and Asia) and Gondwana (South America, Africa, Antarctica, India and Australia ). Laurasia and Gondwana later split in two, and the Americas drifted west to their current position. The brake up of Pangaea resulted in the formation of the Atlantic Ocean.
